Cuban and the HUNT Principles

By looking at Mark Cuban's accomplishments it is clear that the HUNT principles were followed. The hunt principles stand for Harnessing your vision, Underestimating the roadblocks, Networking with other people, and Taking the first step.  By looking at how Cuban sold garbage bags to save up money when he was just 12 years old, the HUNT principles can clearly be seen.  He knew that he wanted to be able to save up for a new pair of shoes.  He "harnessed" that vision and though to himself, "What can I do to accomplish this?"  Next, he underestimated all of the roadblocks that could take place.  In order to by a pair of shoes he must have had to sell over 100s of garbage bags.  This could have created doubt in his mind.  Also, he had to compete with other garbage bag selling companies.  Both of these obstacles were over come by underestimating the roadblocks.  In order to obtain and being to sell the bags, Cuban needed to network.  He had to get to know a store that would allow him to sell bags at large amounts and take in all of the profit.  He also had to find an area where he could sell bags and collect all of the income without paying any rent.  The people that you know often help you succeed in life whether you are selling garbage bags, or potentially growing a large business.  Finally, he acted on his vision and took the first step.  He sold garbage bags and was able to buy the shoes that he wanted.  It may seem immature or not reasonable to apply the HUNT principles to something so small as selling garbage bags, but clearly they can be seen in any business venture small or large.  The HUNT characteristics help create successful business entrepreneurs.

Mark's Contributions

Mark Cuban has had many successful buisness ventures throughout his life.  He not only is the infamous owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, but he is also the owner of Landmark Theaters, Magnolia Pictures, and he is the chairman of the HDTV cable network AXS TV.  He not only has done all of this in his life so far, but he is also the star of the new hit TV show "Shark Tank".  This is not just a normal TV show.  On this program, American entrepreneurs are able to bring their ideas and present them to current successful business leaders, the "Sharks".  The "Sharks" can use their money to invest in other's ideas to help them become as successful as they were.  This show helps bring out the American dream because it enables those with ideas to live out their dream and hopefully grow a profitable business.  Not only has Cuban created, sold, and owned several business that provide jobs to people in America, but he also invests his money in other's ideas to help form a successful American Society.  By investing his money in others ideas he is not only profiting from his business, but also others.  Without him, many American business would not be as prolific and successful as they are today.
While Cuban is so successful with his "pen", he sometimes uses his mouth incorrectly.  Mark Cuban has said some tough and debatable things in his past that have led to controversies and bumps in the road today.  He commented on Kobe Bryant's sexual assault controversy as being "Great for the NBA".  He also has insulted co-workers by saying that he wouldn't even hire them to work at a Dairy-Queen.  On the business and reality side of things Cuban has made comments regarding Trayvon Martin and the current 2016 political race that have turned heads.  He has caused many to loose respect for him, and potentially, he has lost future business clients because of the comments that he has made in the past.  In total, while he has had a very successful business career, Cuban has made comments that have hurt his reputation.  By looking at all of the information gathered on Cuban I have larded a couple things.  I have learned that handwork as a child can bring to good things in the future.  I have learned that even if you come from a lower end middle class family, it is possible to grow companies, make money, and invest in others.  But, I have also learned that it is important to watch what comments you make on certain topics because these comments can affect your reputation greatly.  While Cuban has inspired me to become a media and sports entrepreneur, he has also taught me that actions outside of business can affect you greatly.
